Kristin Wilson

Florida native Kristin Wilson first came to Central America in 2002 as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar. She learned the language and culture by living with local families near San José, Costa Rica and traveling throughout the region on the weekends. Kristin has been surfing for 11 years and has been scoping out property and waves on the Pacific and Caribbean Coasts of Nicaragua since relocating to Central America where she is a partner in a Century 21 office. Her writing has been published in surfing magazines throughout the United States and Surfline.com worldwide.

Holly Beck:

"As a pro surfer i've had the good fortune to be able to travel all over the world. I've been to Indo, Africa, Australia, South America, and all through the Pacific Islands, still Nicaragua is my favorite. It's close to home, the people are incredibly friendly, and the food is cravable. There is such a wide variety of types of waves all in close proximity, and with offshores all day nearly everyday, it really is a surfer's paradise. I've bought land down there and one day I hope to call it home."

Larry Kraus:

Larry Kraus was born and raised in San Diego, California in the Mexican border town of Imperial Beach. His father built what is still the most south westerly house in the United States. As a teenager he moved to Coronado just ten miles north and began surfing competetively as and amateur and then professionally until the age of 22. Some of his sponsors included Quiksilver clothing and O'Neill wetsuits among others. He got his California real estate license in 1987 and while attending college in 1988 he founded Emerald City Surf N Sport. He soon afterwards co-founded SMP clothing which he sold a few years later while maintaining the operation of two Emerald City locations in Mission Beach and Coronado. The Coronado location is still in operation and will be 20 years in the running in 2008.

Larry has traveled much of the world to surf and most recently visited Nicaragua where he realized the potential for great waves and the opportunity in the real estate market. Having many friends and action sports associates that have invested successfully in Costa Rica and in Nicaragua ( surprisingly ), he began to do some research and quickly decided to invest in the market and work with Nicaragua's most successful real estate company Century 21, founded by Barry Oliver with whom he happened to meet and surf with in the summer of 2007. Larry will be Century 21's long needed representative in San Diego California, and plans to open a local office in the near future."

About Nicaragua Surfing

Nicaragua has great surf! Its Pacific Coastline is angled in such a way that south swells wrap into to several bays and beaches creating the perfect conditions. In addition, the wind blows off shore 360 days out of each year. To get an idea of what the waves are like here, we often refer to the world renowned wave at Witches Rock in northern Costa Rica. Although Costa Ricans will deny it, this is really a piece of Nicaragua reaching into Costa Rica. We get great waves all year long. Read more...

About Surf Expo

Surf Expo traces its beginnings to a 1975 board meeting of the Eastern Surf Association when a group of ambitious sales reps rented out rooms to show their lines to the buyers who had congregated in Virginia Beach, VA, to attend the meeting. The following year, Ross Houston, a board member, decided to make this more than just a “show and tell” and launched the first Surf Expo at Cocoa Beach’s Cape Colony Hotel. By its fifth year, Surf Expo moved into Orlando’s Tupperware Auditorium with 150 booths.

In 1989, the show moved into its current home at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

Today Surf Expo is produced twice annually by dmg world media for manufacturers and retailers in the Board, Beach and Fashion industries. Held in January and September in Orlando, Florida, Surf Expo draws buyers from specialty stores; surf and skate shops; wakeboard, waterski, windsurf and kiteboard shops, resort, swimwear and urban apparel boutiques; department stores; and sporting good stores across the U.S., the Caribbean, Central and South America and around the world.

Surf Expo features more than 2,400 booths of apparel and hardgoods and a full line-up of special events, including fashion shows, annual awards ceremonies, and skate and other boardsport demos. Average buyer and exhibitor turnout exceeds 15,000 attendees including retailers, exhibitors and media per show.

Surf Expo is endorsed by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA); the Board Retailers Association (BRA), the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA) and the Association of Wind Sports Industries (AWSI).

All shows are open to trade only.
